My first car, a four door 1992 Cadillac De Ville. 4.9 liter 300 CI. V8 engine, front wheel drive, air ride rear suspension, power seats power windows power locks power antenna, ten disc CD changer, thermostat like a house for interior temperature, sony 4 channel 35 watt head unit, 15 inch aluminum rims, power decklid, fully digital dashboard, rumbly exhaust. (Exhaust is original, with missing catalytic converter, patch pipe where the converter used to be leaks. Catalytic converter rusted off.)
Poor thing now has a hole in the water pump inlet, not a fun part to replace. Gotta get a current pic of my 1993 Dodge Caravan. (Respect the Van, it has a Porsche 3.0L V6 engine!)

I was more surprised about the water pump inlet than the rest of the issues I've had with it. Loved the looks I'd get when I blew by with the pipe just rappin' away though! (Had people dog it in front of me, then try and tromp on it when I passed them, needless to say, I never failed to get by.)
Actually that van of yours has the Mitsubishi 3.0 liter V6 in it, one hell of a mean piece of cast iron, and notorious for burning oil.
I had one in my 88 NewYorker and beat the hell out of it.

I knew it was labeled Mitsubishi, but a third-party company developed it. The Mitsubishi V6 that's in this van was also in the '93 Porsche Carrera and, '93 Lancer. Mine burns no oil, but the valve covers were loose for a while, which leaked worse than anything I've seen. I plan to get a Hemi kit and hop up the transmission plus go through the rest of it with a fine toothed comb to restore and customize it. (Hemi competition stripes, custom paint, 5% mirrored tint the windows ETC.)
The Lancer and the Carrera weren't mentioned on the page you linked, but I have serial number confirmation that the same block was used. Thank you for that link though, it will come in handy. (My family thinks the van's a waste of space and wants me to scrap it with so little wrong with it... NOT happening!)

Well you learn something new every day!

I'm currently a registered member there and it's been a great place to help get problems solved if you end up running into any. There's a guy there who has built probably one of the most recognizable 3.0s in existence, his Duster is a beast

I have so much respect for this guy, aftermarket parts aren't readily available for our engines and a lot of custom parts were made for his Duster. FWDPerformance makes a few aftermarket parts for the 3.0s and is improving from my understanding. These engines can hold a lot of power and can take one HELL of a beating and continue to keep running.
Honestly I'd drop an a543 manual tranny in it, and lightly turbo it along with a few simple mods like this> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2atLBT3xCXs
and I to hope you don't have to scrap it.

That sucker looks like it is in good shape. I had a '91 gray one just like that; poor thing got to where it had a ton of issues with it (ran fine, but accessories were going out). Looks like that water inlet thing is a common deal on that 4.9L then, I had the same issue and a big pain to get to. Hope you can keep 'er going, they are nice-riding cars and comfy on those cross-country trips. I kind of hated to rid of mine... aside from the part where you've got to put premium gas in it, although they are quicker and have better performance handling than Town Cars of that era.
I run regular in it, runs fine. The only time premium really matters is if it runs like shit on regular. The accessories are starting to go, but I can deal with no A/C or ABS. The damn thing took an hour's drive to get warm in the winter though, and the heater core was fine. My biggest gripe is the $1000 air pump for the rear struts is toast, riddes like bad shocks with brand new ones on it. Also, that 4.9 would squeal the tires between each gear all the way up to fourth gear if you got on it enough. (four speed) The mounts inside the body are starting to rust too, but the panels still line up, It's got the car cancer in a few places, like the driver's front corner of the hood.
