Finally, the Rath sculpture is ready to take flight! For simpl1
With a wingspan of about 17 in wide, 11 in long, and 10in tall, this is by far the largest figurine I have ever cast. AND the most complex, with several pieces that had to be cast separately! Not kidding, I took out my previous “Demon Dragon” figurine, and thought it had shrunk because I didn’t realize how giant I went with this one. It was meant to be a little smaller than this, but I underestimated what it would be like including the wingspan. Which I’m kind of fine with, because imagine this guy dropping into an RPG with miniatures, what a terror, haha! The rest of the figurines are officially just cute little guys now.
Thankfully Rath was super patient while I worked through this one, and on Patreon this became an entire saga. It wasn’t just the complexity and challenge of the project itself, but while working on this one, life happened. I had to overcome hurdles around health issues (both my cat’s and my own), a broken hand, fighting against and leaving a high control group, and taking on a major career shift. Most people will probably take a few seconds to look at the final photos and scroll on. But when I look at this sculpture, I feel a little emotional because I didn’t know if I would be able to overcome this art or life challenge. Yet I just kept picking up the pieces and pushing forward, now here we are, finally!
Will post more angles later, but you can view all photos of this one here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/131412662
This isn’t the last of this figurine, it’s super limited edition with only 10 casts made total. I’ve been working on modifying each cast to be unique/OOAK, and now that I’ve finished the very first cast, I’m freed up to work on the next couple. These won’t be a common release, and I’m still considering offering a couple as customs (for all you who have awesome dragon characters). I’ve poured so many hours and materials into this, so they’re one for the serious collectors, that’s for sure!
