This class of locomotive was built by various builders in the US and Canada for export to Russia in the early 1900s. Most of the early orders were delivered to the Russian Empire prior to WWI, however roughly 200 locomotives were left in America due to the Russian Revolution. These stranded decapods were given to several railroads in the US, including the Frisco, Western Maryland, Erie, NYS&W, and Reading. Currently, Frisco 1630 is the only operating class Ye in the US.
