Reminds me of an old "Knights of the Dinner Table" comic.

In a Wild West setting as bank robbers, a group of four players were robbing banks. Two of them got into a contest about whose reward for capture was bigger, and they committed greater and greater atrocities during the robberies trying to one-up each other.

Eventually, once the rewards were large enough, the other two players, who'd kept a relatively low profile as criminals in game, drugged out the two monsters, turned them in for the reward, and used a portion of the money to get themselves out of trouble.
