Yesterday was the annual Warren County Donkey & Mule Show in Lebanon, Ohio. I'm sorry I didn't get the word out sooner, no doubt one or two folks reading this would have liked to have attended. Not having internets at home really sucks through the nose!
As is custom, I made bookmarks to give to the folks who participate in the braying contest, a popular & fun fund-raiser. the bookmarks themselves were a little bit longer on the right-hand side, and once laminated I punched a hole through them so my mother could slip a nice ribbon through it.
The design was inspired by a couple of children at a bus-stop. Their mother encouraged them to sing a song to help pass the time. After watching his mother chivvy his shy big sister to sing so everyone could hear, the little boy jumped off the bench, spread his arms wide, and belted out the song with great gusto & flamboyance!
This year was Ruby's 25th anniversary at the fair. I'm sorry I missed the occasion. Ruby is large standard jenny-ass, and the star of my mother's small longear herd. She's had more teens, children, and adults show her than can easily be counted (in one show I believe she guided over 12 children to winning their ribbons), but I bear the distinction of being the first (my junior year of high school).
