Mako was paid a visit from his brown bear allies, Takoda and Ferrom. Ferrom, in particular, wanted to repay Mako for saving his brother-in-law (Takoda), from a tribal civil war.
Much of the pandas have suffered from the long winters and near-endless nights that had plagued them for nearly a decade, so much so that pandas had to cover themselves in thick fur hides,
as their natural body hairs became inefficient. Ferrom presented Mako with a crystal, that augmented everything about him, and rendering the cold's bite null to him. Even his razor wires could now
cut through some of the hardest material, like tempered steel or granite.
Mako, and his master Minzhe, took the fight to the Panda Elites. One major blow they did was raze a tower, hidden in a remote location. According to Ferrom, the towers acted as beacons, to call on entities, smaller than a grain of dust, that have the capability of breaking down and reshaping reality. The artificial darkness from these creatures condensing into swarms, eat away, not simply at matter, but all spectrums of light and energy, in effect, devouring even the soul.
