I was originally going to have her liken the game to something I played in high school, called "Speedball," which was played indoors and was a cross between soccer and basketball. But "speedball" now refers to something I'd rather stay away from, and I'm not talking about a type of paintball play, either.
So at the suggestion of a reader, I used "Calvinball" instead, and since there's a TV Tropes page about "games with ambiguous, ridiculous, or confusing rules" under that heading, I figured it is appropriate.
