I realized then that I could probably only see her in the corner of my eye. Forever doomed to only see glimpses, but never truly see her.
But I was wrong.
For when I happened to look at the mirror, I saw her—in all her glory—looking back at me.
I let out a gasp.
It was one thing to see her in the stillness of a picture, but seeing her standing there, fully animated, was a different thing entirely.
She cocked her head from side to side as she regarded me with those blank, pure-white eyes that nevertheless betrayed an alien kind of intelligence and curiosity. I stared back at her, slack-jawed and completely in awe.
Then, wanting to communicate with her in some way, I held up my hand and waved at her.
She raised her eyelids in a smile and waved back.
