This took me almost all of last month to finish, which is why it's a bit late for Pride proper, but Pride is never truly over. Certainly now, more than ever, it's crucial for us to celerbate our community.
Many of the flowers here are colored with colors from many different Pride flags, because each one is important. I couldn't fit them all, because a lot of colors didn't work on the background I had available to me, but they are no less essential to the community.
Something I heard a lot during the last nightmare administration was to "Tend to your own garden," the idea being to do what you can to affect your own life, before doing what you can for others, since our own care directly affects how much we can support others. "Put on your own oxygen mask first before assisting others," as they say on flights.
This is how I help with my own self care. It was nice to have the space in my building's Community Kitchen to do something both to help keep the rust off my own art skills, and to help bring visibility to the community I cherish and love. The one that helps me be myself more than any other. The one I truly belong to the most.
So many of you that I've met and come to know are part of it, and I want this piece to honor all of you. For all that you have done to help my garden grow, I hope my place and time here has helped you live better and happier as well.
Happy Pride, everyone. โค๏ธ ๐งก ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐
