(Several years before meeting Dan and Krista...)
Alex purred as she breathed in the sea air, refreshing with just a hint of wet sand and a pinch of salt. Heavenly.
Despite living in Orrn for almost a year, the snow leopard had yet to take the time to actually go see the Pacific Ocean. Admittedly, given the Pacific Northwest's geography, it was a bit more involved than just hopping on a bus to the waterfront, but she still considered it an oversight on her part. Her efforts were richly rewarded. She had been to the beach on Lake Ontario as a child when visiting family near Toronto, but this was so much more. The horizon seemed to stretch even further, the breeze rolled in with greater spirit.
"If only it were clothing optional..." she thought to herself as she towelled off. The feline was not the greatest fan of bathing suits, but they were necessary evils in most swimming spots. "Need to try the beach in Vancouver."
As she finished with her towel, Alex noticed the feeling of being watched. She looked around and saw a stocky badger in the distance. By his side was a skunk whose back and tail stripes, rather than white, were a pale violet. Her expression was one of curiosity and admiration, while the badger's hinted at more than a passing appreciation of her looks.
"Hmm, time to make some friends...", the snow leopard thought. She smiled back at the couple and, picking up her beach gear, crossed the sand to introduce herself.
"Hey there," she opened. "Enjoying the surf?"
"Indeed we are," the badger replied with a grin. "Name's Brock, but you can call me Nex."
"Nex it is, then!"
"And this is my wife Anaria."
"Pleasure to meet you," the skunk waved.
"Likewise. My name's Alex. Are you guys local?"
"Seattle. IT drones in our natural habitat," Nex chuckled. "You?"
"Orrn. I'm a dancer with the Heliotrope Ballet."
"Very impressive! Must take a lot of discipline to stay fit enough for that."
"Yeah, it's not for the timid." Alex draped her beach towel down on the sand next to the pair and sank down on it. "So where are you guys staying?"
"The Whitecaps."
"Me too!"
"What a coincidence! Maybe after we're done here, we can get together for dinner."
"I'd love to."
"And after dinner, maybe you could show us a few of your moves...and stretches." Nex grinned wider.
"Sounds like a tasty dessert to me," Alex purred.
The beginning of a beautiful friendship, I'd say! And what better way to celebrate National Bikini Day than a beach cat?
