Clank was born on the Great Clock and later manufactured in a robot factory on the planet Quartu. He became Ratchet’s lifelong friend after meeting him on Veldin. The two would partake in many adventures together.

After the events of A Crack in Time, Clank was reluctant to reveal his use of the Great Clock that helped him save Ratchet from Alister Azimuth. When Ratchet went to Veldin, Clank went with Talywn to find him, worried about his prolonged absence. Ratchet felt some responsibility for Alister’s death and wanted to isolate himself. Clank reminded Ratchet that isolation and guilt were the reasons that drove Alister to do what he did.

Discovering the Dimensionator was stolen by the Thugs-4-Less breaking into the Intergalactic Museum of History, Clank accompanied Ratchet and Talywn to recover the device. During the skirmish, the Dimensionator was hit and created a rift that pulled the device and the three into it.

Clank was separated from Ratchet and Talywn and found himself in Nefarious City, the capital of an alternate Corson V with only the Dimensionator beside him. He was taken against his will by Ratchet’s dimensional counterpart known as Torque, sending him to Zordoom Prison. When Clank was imprisoned on Viceron, he witnessed Torque beat a Resistance spy, Phantom. When Torque approached Clank, he demanded to know more about Ratchet and the Dimensionator. When Clank refused to answer, Torque went through his memory banks by force.

Clank reunited with Ratchet after the Lombax was captured by Torque and thrown into his cell. While the Ratchet and Clank were happy to see each other, they had different opinions over Torque. Clank stated Torque was too far gone since he spent his entire life raised by the Empire. While Ratchet believed Torque could be convinced to see the error of his ways and learn to let go of his misguided loyalty to Emperor Nefarious. After a Zoni prisoner revealed that Ratchet’s mother was alive in the Lombax dimension as a leader, Torque interrupted their reunion by arguing with Ratchet about his harsh upbringing. After being rescued by Talywn, Clank and Ratchet were sent to the Lombax Dimension by Emperor Nefarious, who utilized the repaired Dimensionator, planning to conquer Ratchet’s Lombaxes.

After Ratchet’s emotional meeting with his mother in the Lombax city, Clank introduced himself, recalling his adventures to her until Ratchet warned about Emperor Nefarious planning to attack the Lombaxes. When Nefarious unleashed his invasion on the Lombax civilization, Clank assisted Ratchet in defending the city.

After Emperor Nefarious perished and the invasion was stopped. Clank accompanied Ratchet to find Torque on the outskirts of the city. As Ratchet tried to reason with Torque, Clank stated that Torque couldn’t be what Ratchet wanted him to be and was beyond reason. Torque revealed to Ratchet how he was saved by Clank from Alister by using the Great Clock and he wouldn’t be able to return the favor. When Clank was fatally struck by Torque, Ratchet became overwhelmed with rage and murdered Torque. Clank was cradled in Ratchet’s arms, and stated he couldn’t let Ratchet die by Alister’s hands after everything they had been through together and that he deserved to find his family. Ratchet tearfully responded that Clank was his family. After Clank’s death, he was brought back to Ratchet’s dimension and laid to rest.
