Swing you Sinners! (Irene and Aleksey) B&W
Recently...well, relatively recently, I did a couples pin-up of my current Dungeons and Dragons campaign character, Lucius and his darling Elanor. I put it together as more of a way to get the two characters colors down so that was set for descriptive purposes and the like. But Dr. Portal loved that so much he funded two more. So this has become a mini series that spans three generations of characters.
This is the middle pic of the collection, set in the roaring 20's equivalent. This is Lucius' parent, Aleksey Grey and Irene Howell (direct descendant of Dolly and Rowan Howell). Irene is a bit of a showy gal, both in style of dress and lifestyle. She's got a presence bigger than life itself some would argue, with enough of a peppering of her mother's stubborn, take-no-ish attitude to make her a formidable dame. During prohibition, this firstborn daughter was a key helper in running her Mom's not-so-secret speakeasy in Montana Town. It was during this time she got a real taste for performance, taking up the role of torch singer at the bar. Her showmanship would follow her beyond the bootlegging days, seeing her voice radio ads and even be a commercial gal when TV would be invented. That said, when it came to her choice in dating, she had specific tastes, one that a foundling turned getaway driver and bartender seemed to fill.
Irene had a somewhat privileged life to start with, but Aleksey Grey was dealt a bad hoof at the start. Orphaned from birth, born with an enlarged heart, and thrust blindly into the world when he was of legal age to leave the orphanage, he was beset on all sides by disadvantages. When Dolly found him, he had been a full-on vagrant. His recent firing from a local factory, thanks to mass automation leaving him homeless and sleeping on benches. Dolly would pluck him off the street and right into the life of runninga getaway for her bootlegging dealings. It was a lot to take in all at once for someone with a sensitive ticker. Something meeting Irene Howell only further strained.
Irene and Aleksey have a Morticia and Gomez Adams dynamic to them, much to Lucius' eternal disgust. They're always touching, leaning, snuggling up, and smooching as if they were sewn together at the hip, and they have a bottomless swamp of sickly sweet pet names for one another. Aleksey worships the ground Irene walks on, and yet Irene sees herself as not worthy of a man with such a big heart. (Literally and figuratively.) It is only when Lulu grows up and meets Elanor does he better understands his parents...even if they choose to keep much of their own PDA away from prying eyes.
I've got a color version queued up as well. Will post soon!
