And so Rick has saved the girl and they share a moment! But why is it, when he looks in her eyes, he sees his memories of someone else? Before he can take the time to fully contemplate that, it turns out one of the punks wasn't quite knocked out! Unfortunately for him, putting Rick in true fight or flight mode is rarely a good idea.


This page was a lot of fun to draw and something I've been building towards for quite some time. I really wanted to show Rick and Paula having that instant connection, and I was also interested in trying my hand at making a page without dialogue to see how well the message would be conveyed. Personally, this is one of my favorites.
Unfortunately, that doesn't mean that it doesn't have elements that bother me... Namely, the panels of Paula from Rick's perspective. I wanted to convey that Rick is seeing the face of his ex in her eyes, but doing that without dialogue to explain what he's looking at, and also not having shown Roxanne's face before... all the elements just kind of work against me. I've had to explain it to almost everyone who sees it.
If I were to ever publish this properly for a book or print, I would almost certainly try to come back and change that portion, specifically.

Also, don't worry, that punk isn't dead!
