1969 Briggs and Stratton 11 hp I/C 4 Stroke Engine Repair
posted 14 years ago Anthro Artist
I put off replacing the piston until I knew the engine would run. Now that it does, I want to replace it. I am going to avoid running her until that piston is replace because look how close that battered crown is coming the cylinder sleeve. I'm not a expert on these old Briggs & Strattons but I don't think it should look like that. I am also wondering about that chip? $10 says it's the cause of all that scratching. I'm In luck that the cylinder is not scored! I am wondering if I can recondition the crown? Or should I just scrap it? It need new rings anyway because the cylinder is heavy with oil and carbon. Oh, yeah; I also need a new head gasket, new breather gasket and a Crank case gasket. Yeah, still need more work. Oh, I pulled it apart because of a chattering rattle that was coming from the front of the engine. I think it is just the recoil mechanism acting funky but it could be the front barring is going to shit. That will be fun.
