And old ink piece I found the other day, which Spinelicker suggested I finish up. I don't usually finish up stuff this old, but I still kind of liked the concept. A bit of a protective nuzzle I suppose. I love it when dragons have snake-like patterns, so I did just that. I also love cel-shading, especially when the style is kind of toony.

this turned our really fukkin sweet!
when you print it be really careful though, the patterns you used on the dragons scales are a bit gridded.
one thing you can try is, resize the image exactly how it would be for print, then dont resize it at all in any way after that. even in the "print preview" thing. D: youll get icky moire-ness.
XD and you forgot to scale the lighter dragons wing and belly? or is that intentional?

Oh wow! This is insanely awesome! The cell shading is perfect and the picture looks like it came out of an anime screenshot :)
I agree with the snakelike patterns too, it does give them a much more "reptilian" flare. Also, the expressions are fantastic. The teeth sticking out of the top jaw are a nice touch too :D
The addition of scales is also very impressive, and gives the picture so much more detail, but the texture does tend to repeat itself a little too much.
All in all, this is beautiful! Instant fav from me :)

Thank you very much for such a detailed overview of what works and doesn't work. This is the kind of stuff I need!
I might be reworking the scales, because of the problem with too much repetition. I had a large pixel block that I hand made of pattern, but it wasn't big enough and the repeat still shows through.
Thanks for the help!

If you would like some more advice... whenever I try and "wrap" textures around anything with curves (like clothing or something). I tried using "displacement maps" in photoshop.

I did a picture like this recently --> http://www.furaffinity.net/full/594077/
where I made a simple texture and using "displacement mapping" I was able to create (in my opinion) some pretty realistic folds. I don't know if you use photoshop or not, and I don't think this technique works very well with cell shading, but it's been pretty useful for me :)
As for the "overview" thing... Well, what can I say? If I'm going to take the time to comment on someone's picture, I try to make it worth reading :)
Especially when the work really shows!

I uh, have no idea what so say... O.-.O I guess I could say this is beyond magnificent and beautiful, not to mention charming and sweet. :)
I will agree with some of the others here, that the scales do look a little, well, strange (I don't know if it's me, but the scales look like they're going straight, instead of flowing with the muscle and bone). For a snake-like pattern, you should go for the smooth snake-like scales. :)
Ah, so that's what that shading and lighting is called. Cel-shading... Looks like fun. :) Now to get the programs that'll do that (I only have Adobe Illustrator CS2 and good ol' Paintbrush).

Though lizard faces can hardly portray emotions obviously due to lack of facial muscles, i simply love the way the mood of the picture is relayed through the way the eyes are drawn and the heads are positioned.
They look so sad, yet so determined to live this through. Wonderful image.

With barely any emotion these two convey a lot. And to me just looking at them makes me more confident...? More calm...probably... it kinda evokes in me the spirit of dragonkind. And if it does that then there's gotta be something awesome in there. :) Good on ya. +Fav.
