A Gengar and His Candy (1/5)
Max walked down the sidewalk late at night, idly tapping away on his phone. The full moon's light shined down through the almost cloudless, starry night, casting some shadows almost as clear as if it were daylight.
Something that Kovaz was eager to take advantage of.
The Gengar, who had been tailing his blissfully unaware trainer for quite some time now, peered through the leaves of a nearby hedge, stifling a snicker as he watched Max pass by, too engrossed in replying to a message to spot the glowing pair of red eyes. Normally, Kovaz merging into Max's shadow was a strictly consensual affair. They would only merge when both of them were feeling up for a night of ghostly shenanigans. For the rest of the time, they were a normal trainer-and-Pokémon duo, just a human and his Gengar.
Tonight, though, Max had crossed a line. One that the Gengar was eager to get payback for.
Kovaz had been left at the duo's house, rather than being brought along, so that Kovaz could do some straightening up while Max ran a few late-evening errands, on the condition that Kovaz receive a nice, big bag of candy for his services. Candy was like catnip to the ghost. Irresistible, his favorite treat, something he'd do almost anything for. He'd happily make the bed if it meant getting a handful of hard candies, vacuum a bit if it meant a bag of caramels, and so on. It was a rare thing, but it was only fair.
This time, though, Max had forgotten to grab the candy on his way home, and headed back out to get it. For having the gall to make his trusty partner wait even longer for his precious candy, Kovaz decided that he was going to make sure he got all the candy he could possibly stomach tonight, and he was going to bring Max along for the ride.
Kovaz slowly floated out from the hedge, maintaining a slight distance as he floated along behind Max, leaning in to the oblivious human's ear.
"Khehehe..."
Max yelped in surprise, turning back to the snickering purple ghost. "K-Kovaz?! What are you doing? Why are you out and about?"
Kovaz, slowly floating down toward the human's shadow, tutted. "I'm going to teach you a lesson on holding up your end of a deal, Max. Simple!"
By the time Max realized what Kovaz was doing, it was too late. The Gengar was merging with his shadow...
