I was once guilty of the crime of poetry about this subject. Worse, it's a sonnet!
Stargazer
I knew a man who watched the midnight sky,
The earth to him a place to stand upon
And see the constellations flying high,
The Dragon and the Eagle and the Swan.
I asked him why. He said, "When I was ten,
"I had a telescope and I would look."
I asked him why. He said, "Well, later then,
"In school, I had some time, I read a book."
I asked him why. He spoke of seeking facts,
Of measurements which need devoted skill,
Of information which the world still lacks.
I said, "No. Tell me why." And he fell still.
Then swept his hand across the blazing sky
And smiled with silent joy and shining eye.

It’s assumed that night owls are just genetically different than day people. There is evidence that those who enjoy the night are wired that way and it’s assumed that it’s like that so they can protect their people while they sleep.
