Peat Marshale (concept and basic design)
A character idea I've had for a little over a year, I just didn't know how to design them until now. Peat probably wears some clothes, but I just wanted to get his basic body design out of the way for now. This submission is going in scraps since it's just a base design that I needed to get out of my head.
Lore:
Peat Marshale and his family were early settlers in the small town of Springbog. Peat's family consisted of his parents (who were always working) and his younger siblings (who were always hungry). Peat loved to explore the deep and isolated murky marshes where he would catch frogs and snails for fun and collect mushrooms for his struggling family. One evening during a severe storm, Peat went out to find and gather more food out of desperation for his hungry siblings and never returned home. An investigation wasn't launched to find him until after the storm had stopped and things dried up outside due to the potential hazard risks, but when they finally searched there were no signs of Peat anywhere. Nothing in the marshland's water, nor in the tall grass. His family and the townsfolk never found him. Peat was never given a proper funeral and his lonely spirit is stuck deep within those isolated murky marshes, awaiting recognition and hoping that some one may eventually find him underneath cavernous, dried mud.
Extra facts:
-Peat is able to project himself in an unassuming way, being able to look the way he did before he died. However, when it rains/storms heavily and the ground gets soggy then his projection fails and how he actually looks (which is terrifying given the nature of his death) comes out. Only one person has actually seen Peat though.
-Peat was the first recorded missing/assumed death incident in Springbog and has become an urban legend of a vindictive and mischievous ghost over time. He has been blamed for many of the town's misfortunes. Machinery failed or a tree crashes on a house during a storm? "That was Peat". An accident or serious injury befalls someone doing a dangerous stunt? "It's Peat's fault". A person turns up dead? "Peat did that".
-Peat, unlike most ghost skyields, is actually harmless.
