Grace was having a wonderful day at the beach! She'd had her favorite beach treat, she'd built a sand castle, she'd splashed around in the waves, and she'd fished her good pal Lynn out of the surf repeatedly. Odd thing about her friend Lynn. The gal sank like a stone.
But for every beach problem, there was a beach solution! And a quick visit to a little shore-side sales shack had provided that solution!
Little water wings to combat Lynn's lack of buoyancy!
"Hah ah, grem Lynn wit wings!" Lynn laughed. "Lookin like bossy princess or someit!" Grace didn't really get the joke but she laughed too.
"So, what beachy thing should we do next?" asked Grace.
"Eatin?" asked Lynn.
"You ate all the snacks we brought. And we already had the caramel bananas when we got here," said Grace.
"Ah, okey areet. Find somethin else t'eat," said Lynn. She looked up and down the beach. They weren't near any of the food stalls though. "Oop!"
Next thing Grace knew, Lynn was chewing on a big pink shell, her teeth clacking and clattering against the hard surface.
"Lynn, you can't eat a shell!" scolded Grace. But the shell seemed to crack under Lynn's nibbling. Grace furrowed her brow. Was it a candy shell? The colors looked candy-adjacent. But where had Lynn bought it? "Can I try it?"
Lynn clutched the shell possessively but softened. If it were anyone else trying to steal her preciouss foods, Lynn would hiss, bite, and throw things. But Crownbelly Gracemodeus was on Lynn's list of people not to bite as long as she remembered not to bite which was not always guaranteed.
"Ah, a bit bite for crownbelly," Lynn relented. She managed to break a piece of the shell off and handed it to Grace.
Grace tentatively licked it. She handed it back to Lynn who immediately swallowed it. "This is... not candy. I think this is an actual seashell."
This revelation did not slow Lynn's persistent endeavor to gnaw the shell. As Grace watched her friend chewing on an actual seashell. She mused, "Your dentist must be very concerned about you."
---
Lynn looks like she chooses outfits by burrowing in a pile of clothes and wearing whatever she emerges in because she does. So her summer look is her usual shoes, board shorts, a school swimsuit, and a huge sun hat. And thanks to Lynn's tendency to sink beneath the waves and be washed up on the shore, Grace has added water wings to her ensemble.
Lynn also continues her tendency to try to eat whatever it crosses her mind to eat. Her teeth are mighty and so is her digestive system.
