OYrn's Tale - In the ER (1)
Caution, this is a bit gory and dark.
These scene takes place shortly after Ruff rushed OYrn out of the Command Center while the otter was in convulsions, and into the medical bay. We skip the initial entry, and find OYrn and Ruff out of surgery and in "post op", though in this case it is continuing treatment more than recovering. This happens well before the "commissioning ceremony" in the consolidated hijacking "comic book" action sequence.
The big wolf is having trouble with what he believes is his failure to protect his little friend.
We also introduce a new character, Shirl. We're definitely going to see more of her as the story moves forward.

Ruff and OYrn each have their own cabins on the Station. But yes, they've been "more than friends" in their past. And, in an upcoming segment, you'll see that they're still very, very close.
OYrn was quite promiscuous when he first hit the station. He'd been fairly repressed during his time at the compound that created him (and had created Ruff years earlier, and others we may yet meet *grin*). Once the chains were off, he went more than a little wild. Sorta like kids leaving home for the first time and staying at college. He was muchly a "party animal". OYrn's settling down a little by the time the "hijack" episode happens. Not entirely, but the "new" has worn off a bit and his eyes are opened about what his lifestyle might be doing to him and those around him.
After the hijacking - - well, he's had a very severe shock, in many ways. He needs folks who really care about him now, not just for a quick roll in the covers. Ruff is truly one of those. There are some others, but the readers here haven't seen them yet.
Ruff, on the other paw, is a few years older then OYrn. He's been in combat, Special Forces. He's seen life up close and very personal, including the worst parts that warfare reveals. He's much more selective of his partners. He truly cares for OYrn. There were others, but he's pretty exclusive with OYrn now.
