Goggles, a pocket watch, a pipe, bags with tools and weird canisters... I think these are most of the steampunk style attributes.
That's one of the filler sketches I made in case I couldn't draw anything.
Been mowing grass with a trimmer and my hands are still a little shaky... Can't draw a straight line :(
P.S. What do you think of this tracing done with a pen? The pen quality is crap, but it still looks a little sharper than the pencil...

I think it looks great as a sketch. Seems to fit the whole steampunk feel, and besides, the pencil seems sharp enough.
I do think you should get a high quality scanner, though– unless FA's submission crapification procedures regarding image resolution came into play.
