[1358] Pooltoy Otter and Headless Hydra, 21 July 2025
You know how it is, you're hanging with a friend and the smallest bit of nonsense catches their eye and they find it way too funny for what's going on.
So another gradually-less-rare multi-panel strip from me, and another funny moment in the lives of these two. Plus a cameo from Spunky because they needed someone to be taking their order and I haven't drawn Spunky in long enough that I've apparently forgotten how.
Anyway covering your nonexistent face with your hands probably isn't the best way to distract from accidentally nodding your nonexistent head.
Special challenge this picture: how to depict the otter's delight when they're incapable of the open-mouthed surprise you'd naturally use for this scene? Body language is part of it, yes, and that's why they're holding themselves up by their hands. But I also worked out, finally, that having the lower edge of their smile be nearly vertical gave it enough of that open-mouthed joy look to read clearly enough.
I am also really happy with the hydra's hands in the first panel, and the twist in their body in the second.
Also this is like the second time I've drawn the hydra not facing stage right. I don't know why except I guess they're usually setting up something for the otter to respond to.
Hydra's T-shirt here is the logo for Anubis: The Ride at Plopsaland De Panne, Belgium. Fine ride, really solid theming on the queue and station. The park doesn't have a T-shirt like this that I could find, but why should I be limited by that?

I think this is the first time I've genuinely been morally offended by a piece of art on this site.
...
They make diet Moxie?! Truly there is no justice or mercy in this universe. Gentian root is the flavor of the devil even without artificial sweeteners and no good will come of this, sinner, mark my words. Give yourself to the true, pure path before your coati soul should perish-- drink New York Seltzer, save the gentian for Biology 101, and blaspheme no more.
Yuck!

Oh, hon, I have to break it to you: they have been making Diet Moxie since before you were alive. I can't find evidence that they make a Moxie Zero variant yet, but I can't rule it out.
I'm just sad that the pinball tournament that has the Guy With Exotic Pops hasn't had Moxie two years running now. Some kind of shipment problem in '24, but this year he didn't even offer an explanation.

There is no Moxie Zero Sugar, I can confirm. Currently they're only producing Moxie and Diet Moxie. Their last thing beyond those was a Moxie Energy drink, but they're no longer putting that out.
To note, I brought 4 cases of Moxie to Anthrocon this year, and got to introduce several people to it newly, which is why I do it. Most enjoyed.

Yeah, they started as a long slithering type. Mostly it's just easier to fit them into casual scenes with legs instead of a huge tube of body. I've supposed that they have shapeshifting abilities, which fits nicely with my inability to draw characters two times in a row so they look the same. But I should probably do something showcasing that.
