Hartland Plastics produced a number of unpainted and simply painted model horses in the 1960s as inexpensive toys. One of these was the 5" series Arabian Mare, about the same size as a Breyer Little Bit; this one was molded in red styrene, a lighter-weight plastic than the tenite many models are made of. I wanted to show she could still be a stunning piece of equine art, so I removed her seams and Hartland logo, sculpted a thicker tail, plus chestnuts and mare parts, carved her ears, nostrils, mouth, and hooves, and refined her muzzle just a bit. I then painted her in a rich bay with one small sock, modeled after the great stallion Bey Shah+, and nicknamed her Sunflower Bey.
