Despite their massively terrifying size (at 22 feet), the basking shark is a gentle giant who prefers staying against the surface and swimming around with its mouth open, filtering plankton through its massive gills to feed. Basking sharks have also been mistaken for whales and sea monsters in the past and even caught as bycatch or as a mistaken whale. But yes, say hi to your fellow basking shark and keep your distance while they feed ^^
