A thing that was a doodle which turned into a more refined sketch with some border elements that i kinda hate, but ah well.
I like the design of the border, but i never should have went around the outline with a tan copic. I knew i'd probably regret doing so... must be the heat affecting my brain ;_;
Anyway, i havrn't drawn Equustra much in a while. I decided (s)he looked cool with that weird pigtail manestyle and without spots. Maybe now that i've come to terms with the hyena inside me i don't need to express those spots on my unicorn anymore (My character has had spots as long as i've had her, even before she was a unicorn... and they were originally based on hyena spots. Funny how things come full circle like that!)
Anyway, it's just a thing.
I like the fact that my character can be pretty androgynous sometimes. I think that is an admirable attribute.

I do too :>
Though this isn't necessarily my female version, it could be either (he could be tucking) ...i kinda wanted to leave it open in that regard. :3 Both my male and female character versions have the same body shape, and neither have chest-breasts really, so androgyny is a pretty natural attribute for Equustra.

The shin stripes are okapi-derivative (like the forearms and hands - those shin markings actually match the hand markings, they're just scaled to fit each limb so they don't really look the same) The other body stripes are based on gazelles. Thompson's gazelles most likely...
Androgyny works so well in anthro art. Definitely one of the more fascinating angles in furry. Most animals are androgynous to people anyhow, so how far you deviate from that in creating a character goes hand-in-hand with the other aspects of anthropomorphism.
I love how you imbue your pictures with these sort of concepts, and the extra bit of graphical overlay in pieces like this. It's such a unique style, and works especially well in this image.

Well i did fill in the outside digitally :P It was just a tan line markered in around the border, with empty space on the other side. It looks awful, so i filled in the space in PS, and it's at least tolerable now!
I wouldn't be able to get a marker to colour so uniformly. (like in those letters for instance)
