I woke with the taste of iron in my mouth. My leg-shredded. Bleeding again. Something dragged me... or carried me. I don’t know. The jungle is gone now.[Blood smear]They've brought me into a city. Not ruins. Not overgrown. Alive. Gods... it's beautiful. Massive stone buildings, green with age but humming with life. There’s a courtyard of sorts, a fountain still running. Water, real water. They walk among ziggurats carved with their own icons-avian heroes in gold, obsidian, and amber. Temples that shine in the sun, as if they’ve never been lost. I saw one structure like a temple clock... the stone glowed orange at the top, pulsing like a heartbeat.[Ink splashed or brushed]It’s them. The Istetli. They exist. And they’re not myths. They stand tall, taller than a man. Plumes like fire, talons clicking softly on stone. One, taller than the others, feathers like blood and sunset-watched me. I don’t know if he blinked. I don't know if he can. [writing trails off, returns shakier] My chest clenched. Like I wasn’t just being watched-like I was being chosen.[Illegible words etched into the page]The others don't speak. They move like you or I, but when they look at me, I feel them. Quiet voices beneath the noise. Ancient. Curious. I don't think they’re cruel. But I don’t think they’re merciful, either. I'm in some kind of holding chamber now. No window. Bars of stone carved like spears. I think I'm done for.[Blurred ink, pressure from heavy hand]Please. If this reaches anyone-tell the next fool to turn back. Burn your maps. WE ARE NOT THE APEX PREDATOR.[Last line-scribbled, frantic, barely legible]
