Nope. She had the unfortunate habit of developing feelings for others, which is apparently very very taboo in her realm. (Also, there's no such thing as Heaven or Hell in these stories, just different realities that may be better, or worse, than the one a person a currently in. I try not to put any sort of religious stuff into these stories since I do not believe in any sort of religion myself).

Considering what Penance's superiors did to her, they deserve much worse. I'd actually enjoy seeing her take them out.

I must say, I really like the character Penance. It's odd to see her showing a softer side, what with all the usually violent things I see her do.

Indeed. A few days ago I said that I didn't find Penance particularly likable. If she gets more scenes like this, I'll probably change my opinion.

Oh, and Jim--I know you said the story would end today, but I'd really love to see Prudence happily reunited with her family and her little cat boy friend.

Odd for some reason I didnt think Penance would be bothered to comfort a victim, seems more liek she would prefer to say make them go to sleep, or if they are tied up and blindfolded, cut their bonds so they could escape, and not let the victim see 'a kid who helped them', because next thing you know you might have police interested to find the viglante killer or pervs.

The kids' memories of her will fade quickly (if the kid is alert when she appears). In most instances, Penance would make the kid sleep, and then deal with the crook. But in this case, she was intending on calling the cops to come pick the crook up and rescue the girl.

A side I certainly didn't expect to see from her, but shows she has a heart beneath that fearsome (occasionally) appearance. Very neat to see this side of her.

Penance doesn't seem so...demonic...here, in fact the feeling is less that of a demon and more that of an Old testament angel, one of the Seraphim, committing acts of great mercy and terrible retribution.

Maybe it's because I was talking about the comics with a friend earlier, but she reminds me a little of DC's Red Lanterns (if you've been following recent mainstream comics at all).

The last time I read any comics was back during the whole "Onslaught" Marvel series. Been several years...

For the most part you're not missing much. Some of the recent DC stuff's been pretty solid, though. Solid enough that I've seriously considered becoming a regular comics buyer again for the first time in something like 7 or 8 years.

Yeah, I'd noticed the comics were becoming long, overdrawn soap operas instead of the more typical action-packed stories. I also couldn't stand the way Marvel would have their characters engage in 3-page speeches while in the middle of a firefight! Or even better, create some overblown drama between certain characters on a team (methinks the writers were watching too many "reality" shows during that period).

Oh, this is very interesting, i didnt know she had actaully any feelings for the kids she hang around with, even to confort one of them, i though they were for her just a simple bait to lure her victims, being her a demon that´s something very uncommon, wel i guess its possible since in one of the explainarions you wrote about her you told that once she developed love feelings for one of her victims and she did let him live.
I guess thats the reason why her superiors punished her making her live under that little bear shape, i hope they wont punish her even more for this now >XD

Her superiors can't touch her here; they would have to take physical forms themselves, and Penance could just play the "frightened child" should one of her superiors try to "kidnap" her. How many people do you think would just stand there while someone is trying to steal a child?

Penance has figured out how to make this punishment work for her instead of against her. And that pisses off her superiors to no end!

I wonder if she pulls an Eric Draven with those memories..

THIS is why i like this char, yes shes a cute lil bear that i would die to take care of (NOT THAT WAY YOU SICK FUCKS) and keep safe
BUT also she can be so evil, so sick so disturbing that i would STILL hug her.

jim you have an awesome char in penance, you could make a series of strips with just her seeking out sick ppl and maybe show a humorus side of being penance (like the kids thong single panel you did that cracked me up).

OR if you ever get the notion, do a snapshot of all your chars like a crew picture, one frame there all in the picture and the next frame all hell breaks loose :D

Well, her story first appears in the fourth Caterwaul story, and that will explain a bit of her history, as well as just what it is she does for a living. She will likely pop up from time to time in that title as well. I do have a one-shot story that has been written for her, but something like that wouldn't get produced until after her story comes out in the pages of Caterwaul.

Hers perminantly, or just until she subjects someone else to these memories I wonder?
