NOTE: I have long forgotten the original artist who did this commission for me, ages ago. If anyone knows the artist, or if you happen to be the one who drew this? Please contact me ASAP so I can give you proper credit.
Back around 2005 or so, I was totally a fan of a then-recent re-imagining of DC's Batman character; in a show called "The Batman", which featured a younger Bruce Wayne, having to deal with the early years of him just becoming the Batman.
Part of what made the show great for me, was the addition of a new character, Detective Ellen Yin (voiced by Ming-Na Wen). Yin, along with Ethan Hunt, another GCPD Detective, were tasked in stopping the Batman and any of the villains that sprang up because of his presence. Ultimately, Ellen became tied to Batman -- thanks to his coming to her rescue several times -- and by the way the second season was going, Yin was headed in the direction to possibly becoming Bruce's new partner.
However, the higher ups at WB Animation decided that was too far off the usual story, so when Season 3 was broadcast, They brought in James Gordon and his young daughter, Barbara, and Yin simply vanished from the series.
Because I was such a fan of Yin, I decided to give her a new lease on life, and write a 3-part story that I called "A Wing & A Slayer", in which Ellen left the GCPD, and went to work for Bruce as WayneTech's new head of security. Ultimately, this lead to Ellen learning about Bruce's secret, and by the end of the story (SPOILER!) Ellen had become Batman's new partner: Gotham's defending Angel!
This piece of commissioned art was to showcase Ellen's new role and her outfit. Yes it does bear a passing influence of Dick Grayson's Nightwing costume, but I figure Dick had to have gotten inspiration from somewhere, right?
