It was supposed to be a fun night out with your friends, but every single one of them had cancelled at the last minute. Poached away by sudden duties, last-minute hesitation or the simple unpredictability of life, leaving you alone to carry on the duty of seeing tonight’s concert.
It was supposed to be a fun night, but you ended up missing the tram to Haven’s lower levels due to a sudden Regel crackdown near Midtown. The next one arrived dreadfully late, practically ensuring you wouldn’t get to watch the pre-show.
It was supposed to be a fun night, yet you had to wait in line for hours, scrolling on your phone as Haven’s artificial rain poured from above. But you carried on, determined to make such hardships worth it in the end.
It was supposed to be a fun night, a calm night, until a crow dressed in a white suit pulled you aside from the rest of the crowd cheering Lady Sonata on. In his hands was a pass to the very first row of the show, handed out to you by a ‘secret benefactor’.
It was a fun night after all, the Honchkrow Songstress’s voice was that much stronger and prettier from up close. As if, without the aid of all of those microphones and amplifiers, her melody wormed itself even deeper into your mind.
It was a fun night, as you found yourself singing along to a tune you’d never heard before, but sounded oh-so familiar.
And it was the best of nights when Lady Sonata herself stopped on the stage’s edge right in front of you, her words drifting through the air and infecting your mind to its very core. You swayed to her song, feeling your very sense of self blur and unblur as the verses of her song reeled you in.
Much more so when Lady Sonata actually reached out to you, whispering the words that would, unknowingly, change your life forevermore.
“Care to join for a song?” She said, speaking directly to you.
It…
It-
It was meant to be.
Yes. As you reached out with your hand, uncaring of the dark blue feathers bursting from under your skin, heart hammering away in your chest, you finally understood. Everything happens for a reason, and this too was meant to be-
The crowds, enraptured by the beautiful singing and the flashing lights, didn’t even bat an eye at your transforming body or the demon that burrowed into it. And, honestly? Neither did you, your vision solely on Hers, your ears eagerly drinking up Her words and verses.
This change was meant to be as your new beak formed over your old mouth; As your new hat formed over your head and your ears became but a cluster of feathers; As your hands touched Hers, Mistress Sonata’s touch the most ecstatic thing you’ve ever felt.
It was…
It was meant to be.
You were always meant to be Hers, you just didn’t know it until now.
One has taken her hand. Will you be the next?
An absolutely amazing piece I commissioned from the talented
