Male Surge of the Arabian Nights - NikkiKaji
*THERE IS A STORY BELOW THE DESCRIPTION*
So I tried a new artist.
NikkiKaji caught my attention with a particularly splendid depiction of a masculine Rouge the Bat. Their attention to detail, the way they kept the sexiness and key design elements really impressed me, so by chance I went on to check their commission details and found out that not only did they take them, but they were also very affordable. So I took a chance and went to ask for a male Surge, a Sonic character that definitely left an impact on me if my gallery is any indication. I gave prompts, possible designs and they came up with this...which honestly looks pretty badass and sexy, so kudos to them!
If you wanna give them a chance, do check them out as I ordered this on their VGen account. https://vgen.co/NikkiKaji
Now who exactly is this masculine Surge? Read on and find out!

SURGE AND THE 40 THIEVES
Nobody could have predicted the rise of this tenrec.
At first but a destitute, a small-time thief and beggar did he not amount to much. With his sidekick and charge Kitsunami, Kitty for those who knew her, they wandered in search for opportunities and for the occasional odd job, the easy targets, the unwatched stalls that would offer themselves to the both of them. It all changed, however, when a court sorceress and vizier named Starline took them under her wings...or rather simply took them.
Who'd miss vagrants traveling, full of bile and misery after all? Starline was one with dreams of enormous proportions and ambitions, to gain enforcers of incredible power, of true means, both heroes and deterents. To dispose of King Sharyar and to rule the sultanate in their stead she was ready for most of anything, especially if others would do her dirty work and suffer in her stead. Employing sorcery, rituals and artifacts did she indeed empower both Surge and Kitty, altering them both forever. Control of water for the latter, with minimal abilities to create them too through exertion. The former? Thunder and lighting in his veins, raw power to move and strike fast, momentum at his beck and call. Through hypnosis would they be made to obey, to be puppets and enact the will of their better, of their mistress...and yet destiny had other plans.
Prior to full mental assimilation and redirection did someone defeat Starline, unwittingly freeing them both as too many times did life thread upon Surge and Kitty. He had enough and Kitty, too dependent on the tenrec for survival and her opinions did she follow in their next venture: using their powers for their own gain. Some would say that with great power there must also come great responsibility, yet Surge had a rather warped vision of his own responsibilities: his well-being, maybe that of Kitty...the rest mattered not. With crackling energy in his own knuckles, thighs and everywhere in his veins did he go forth and stop thinking small...and instead went for big acts instead.
Once a thief, the idea to simply go legit never occurred to him as he targeted traveling merchants, caravans and the like. Guards could try to fend Kitty and him off, yet he moved much too fast for them to even hit and with his partner using the water from flasks, urns and jugs against them were they far too much to handle. Treasures, coins, food and luxuries like wine and fine clothes were theirs for the taking, the start of a new life and Surge liked it immensely No longer dressed in rags could he show himself off, being able to pay for baths and such services as he and Kitty were certainly much-changed due to their ill-gotten gains and what it allowed them to pay for...when they didn't outright grab it for themselves.
Soon, however, came trouble not just with the law but also with other bandits and such desert scums. Territory was to be respected it seemed and many contested those two new would-be ruffians on the scene. Surge would not suffer from anyone else's ambition ever again, thus did he become much more prompt in teaching others who was the boss. First came lowlives, minions or simply unskilled brigands simply struggling under the weight of their greed and needs...then the big names popped up. Fang the sniper...Roughe and Tumbelline...Clutchina...all began to get beaten and then offered a choice: to join or to die. Thus began a gang which rose to high numbers, their ranks effectively stopping at a certain number because Surge just couldn't be bothered to manage more than that many underlings...
The 40 Thieves.
A little empire of some sort, the likes of which brought riches and infamy wherever they went as Surge certainly felt proud of himself. Fear meant respect for his will and power and all those who did not dare help or assist them could all be his targets for all he cared. Only, there was one stranger who seemed to disagree and who made it so his plans oft were derailed or downright stopped, the blue blur herself, someone faster than he was and with such an attitude as to make him rage: Sonique the hedgehog.
A careful heist in the middle of the Sandopolis area? Twarted. An operation for people using the marketspace to pay for proper protection? Ceased. She was everywhere, making it so Surge needed to hire more thieves if only to keep the 40 in their moniker. It was a name well-known which used to bring terror and cooperation from the populace, so he couldn't just have 39 underlings; he'd make a fool of himself.
“Boss? Sir...uh...Surge?” Kitty went on to ask, the nickname oft used due to her scaredy-cat nature, on how she couldn't really take much of a decision without Surge to back her up. Even then did she seem hesitant to come to the tenrec for support or merely for conversation, too meek despite her considerable powers.
“What?” Surge went on to ask, glancing behind as he looked at the pile of fine clothes, having chosen an ensemble of black and yellow, an open bolero vest, a lycra top to protect his chest from the high speed he could reach, bracelets and bracers with studs, pantaloons and a good amount of jewelry. Starline had meant for him and Kitty to be both bodyguards and concubines had she gotten her way, so to say the outfit agreed with him was an understatement as he turned in his fury and surprising new grace. “Let me guess...Sonique?”
“Yes chief...uh boss...uh...” Kitty tried to speak, hiding behind her thick facial veil to ease her shyness. Surge got closer, protective and yet occasionally irritated by Kitty as he got her to get close to the open map in his quarters. They did manage to get a cave with a sealed entrance, the magic password protecting them from the blue hedgehog and her shenanigans, yet to even necessitate such measures irked him. “We know where she'll be next. The scouts you...uh...cordially encouraged to pursue her heard that she'd be by the three dunes later today. Should we...should we prepare an ambush?”
“Yes! Immediately! All hands on deck! Anyone who captures her will be showered in gold!” Surge said, regaining some of his manic and high energy as his shouting was heard through the cave, prompting for everyone to get ready. Crossbows, sabers, bows and arrows, nets, everything so that they could get rid of that pesky blue blur.
“Capture? Uh...captain...boss...chief...sir...wouldn't it be simpler to...to kill her?” Kitty asked, not one to often go and contradict Surge given how he did take care of her in the past, yet this was indeed a very strange request for the usually merciless tenrec.
“Heck no! I want her to suffer, I want to see the look on her face when we do defeat her!” Surge said, responding with a high tone and a grit in his teeth, in his words. A shark-like grin on his face, he got to the pile of clothes as he picked up a surprisingly well-crafted bedlah from it. “She'll be made to dance for us, to entertain and then she'll be part of my harem, for me to parade and enjoy...yes, I bet she'd even look splendid in that.”
“Uh...uuuuuuh...” Kitty began to retort, no proper words coming out although it did seem like Surge was...attracted to Sonique? Maybe? Why would she even be sparred and made to wear this? Why would she even agree? It made little sense to her as this seemed more like wishful thinking than a proper way to deal with the nuisance that Sonique proved to be.
“What? Go on and pack that ensemble up...or the other one if she gets feisty! I won't settle for her to wear anything else but red or blue...that would match her quills better,” Surge said, his voice filled with a certain impatience that indicated that to test him would be unwise. Thus did Kitty and the rest of the thieves go on their way, ready for a tussle...only for her to actually be waiting for them right there.
“I was tired of waiting and to pick you all one by one...so I figured I'd be taking care of you all at once,” the blue blur said, her long blue quills drifting due to the desert wind, her running slippers and her clothes made to not get in the way of speed. The puff to protect her ankles and wrists, from pantaloons and detached, sleeves, were minimal while she wore an open vest along with bandages around her torso, crude yet decent enough as the moment they put themselves in position to surround her, a luxury she afforded them, she went on to run and then...well it seemed they had underestimated her. “You're all too slow!”
Kicks, launching herself in the air and using a forward roll to throw her body like a projectile, spinning around a handful of bandits to create a small dust and sand whirlwind, none were indeed possessive of reflexes good enough to even land a hit. Surge saw this and it seemed he was the only one who could keep up, thus did he sigh as it was up to him yet again to deal with serious problems. Not even Kitty with her water blast and tendrils could reach her, so he took a running position and then without further ado did he blast off, the sound of thunder accompanying his sudden acceleration.
“You've been a thorn in my side for too long...but once you're beaten here, you'll stay by my side forever...mwahahahaha!” Surge went on to say, having no qualms about hitting women as he tried a lightning-quick punch, only for Sonique to slow down for a brief instant before gaining a sudden boost which made him move in front of Surge. “Stay still!”
“By your side? Are you...are you hitting on me, dude?” Sonique asked, amused yet also slightly confused as she kicked some sand towards Surge. Bolts and arrows flew by, never managing to connect with either tenrec or hedgehog as they zipped and dashed past the many thieves, brigands and bandits caught in this entire melee. Neither could land a hit on the other, not entirely evenly-matched but close enough.
“No, I'm trying to hit you! By the way, do you prefer red or blue?” Surge said, distracted as the world faded in blurs due to their speed, going round and around within the perimeter of the three dunes. Yes, when she'd have learned respect would she be shown how to behave, added to his treasure pile as his knuckles cracked and crackled, his punch only managing to lift sand and ground above which they sped past in picoseconds.
“Pfft...bigger and meaner than you have tried and failed. Erazor Djinn for one, Starline...” Sonique tried to remember, her enemies numerous yet to her it was all a bit hard to remember given that, in general, their motivations was all quite the same. That last name did give Surge pause as he began to slow down, stupefied as he stopped and then downright began to connect the dots together. “What? You scared now?”
So she was the one who unwittingly saved both Kitty and him from the vizier? From being turned into hypnotized slaves? The one person who unbeknownst to them had done an immense favor and good deed towards them? And she was trying to stop him? Conflicting emotions, values and information made this entire situation all the more complex as Surge went on to lift one hand and then snapped his fingers, employing lightning and thunder to make sure everyone would hear.
“Everyone, we retreat for now. Let's call it even and skedaddle,” Surge went on to say, much to the confusion of near-everyone, Sonique included. Only Kitty seemed to have a modicum of understanding as she too was conflicted, looking at Sonique and then Surge. “You all deaf or what? We scram!”
As soon as this battle did start that it was over, Sonique just too confused to pursue them as Surge's actions and reactions were erratic. From what she had heard was he a merciless scumbag with no empathy and a thirst for violence...yet he stopped a fight after hearing her exploits? What was his deal anyway? In her mind she did defeat them, stopping them for a little bit as she did damage a few of them, both physically and to their ego. She'd saved the day in the end and that's what mattered.
Yet unbeknownst to her was this merely the start of a very weird relationship with Surge, the leader of the 40 thieves...
