The store just put out a new display of canvas so the residents artists were asked to do some new paintings for it. I was a little stumped because I already have display paintings from class all over the store but when I was going through my art morgue, I found this clipping (from the sports page of all places!) of a horned toad. I remember 'horny toads' fondly from my childhood. We used to catch them and stroke their little heads and watch them go to sleep. It's a shame they aren't around much any more.
I really like the way this came out. I may tell my manager that I want this one BACK. Heh.

That's actually a Lizard. Due to their shape they are often called Horned Toads or frogs but are reptiles. The "Falling asleep" notion when you pet them or turn them over is not sleeping but fear, a common misconception.
Texas Horned Lizard (Phrynosoma cornutum) Pretty good painting of one too. good job
