Huli jing (狐狸精) are Chinese fox spirits, each owning a precious ball that contains a portion of their power. Although I grew up with bedtime stories that the fox ball was stored in their stomachs, I could not find this information online so it must have been added during the folk tale's time with my family in Taiwan! I'm passing down one more contribution to the tale: It makes more sense that the fox ball is kept in an internal pouch, just before the opening to the stomach.
