Mamoru (Ducktales 2017 OC)
Voice Actor: Michael Sasaki
Other Names: Momo (by his friends); Miri (Deadname)
Gender: Trans Male
Species: Hokkaido Inu/Akita Inu mix
Nationality: Japanese/Ainu (on his mother’s side)
Orientation: Gay (sexually and romantically)
Residence: Kalifornsky, Alaska
Job: Wildlife Ranger
Personality: Optimistic and easygoing by nature, Mamoru is a very approachable person, which suits his job as a park ranger just fine. Be prepared for lots of infodump, especially when he's on the job - that's when his chattiness tends to come out the easiest (even though him rambling in general is nothing new). He also has his moments of bravery, especially when anyone mistreats the environment or wildlife. When the chips are down, his sense of imagination comes in handy, allowing him to whip out novel solutions in a heartbeat.
That said, Mamoru can be bashful when making new friends, and even can get evasive when certain topics (like his father) get brought up. He is sometimes unpredictable, both on account of how often he will smile to hide his real feelings and just his overall clumsiness. To say nothing of how lost he can get in his own thoughts, being a frequent daydreamer by heart. What's more, Mamoru can be rather sentimental at times, his emotions often ruling out reason and logic.
Biography: Born to Kenji and Hoshio Akita (the latter a woman of Ainu descent who hailed from Sapporo in Hokkaido), Mamoru was still barely a baby when his older brother, Tobio, died in a vehicular accident and his father, in a fit of heartbroken rage, became obsessed with revenge in turn. Seeing the dark path her husband was heading down, Hoshio wisely took Mamoru and fled back to her hometown, even changing their last name to Naito for in case her now ex-husband would try looking for them.
Growing up, Mamoru would come to gradually understand how broken his family truly was. Things would only become more complicated into adolescence once he came to recognize aspects of his real self, particularly his sexuality and transness. Owing to the collectivist leanings of Japanese culture as well as the general queer/transphobia of society, Mamoru feared coming out to his mother, worried she would feel as though she'd lost what remained of her family - only to be surprised when she accepted him despite her initial shock. Hell, she'd even go so far to help her son raise money for his transition surgery.
Since then, Mamoru has come into his own as a person and hasn't been any happier. He currently works at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge where he can live out his dream of looking after nature and animals. However, lately he's had to investigate some strange goings-on visitors have reportedly spotted in the mountains, mainly flickering red lights. His investigations would lead him to cross paths with BOYD and Gearloose, who suspect an old enemy might be up to his old tricks...
