This is actually a story I'm really proud of looking back because I went all out in the worldbuilding (this story is a few years old now)
I came up for this at work while listening to some christmas carol I'd never heard before. It got me thinking about what a christmas like holiday would be like in my anthology, and you know me (or you should by now unless you're new to my stories) I DON'T HALF ASS MY WORLD BUILDING! Sure I could have just said it's christmas but vorny, but no f**k that, that's lazy. So here is the holiday Breith, it's traditions and it's reason to exist AND the creation myth of my world and it's many races. Because I am insane and refuse to be lazy with my world building.
I do hope the story itself reads well as I hit writers block constantly with this and ended up scrapping and rewriting most of it. All while sick as a dog. So fingers crossed the story reads well.
Dite sprung from her bed as the bells sounded through her room. The bells signalled the start of the holiday, the week of Breith. Everyone loved the holiday, but for Dite, it was one of the few times she could enjoy her desire to be devoured. Like almost anyone, she loved being eaten, the feeling of a tight throat rippling around her, acids melting her body away and digesting her. But she never acted on her desire to be devoured, an unrelenting fear has possessed her from birth. Some sick irony that she should desire to be devoured, so much but lack any trust in any way to do it. She could have gotten a spell to revive her after she had digested, but what if the spell didn't work? Or if there was a Deireadh nearby? She shuddered just thinking about the horrid monsters, their ability to cancel magic horrified any sane being.
She could use a second body like many restaurants used, but she had never forgotten how their tests had left several of their test subjects comatose. Even though the last time it had happened was long before she was born, she had never been able to shake the fear.
She could of course simply ask someone to eat her and not digest her, but what if they did so anyway? Of course, it was a stupid fear. She knew many of her friends would be all too happy to let her stew in their stomachs without fear of being digested, and few people were willing to risk jail, or worse, by breaking the law to digest her. But no matter who it was, the fear never went away.
A fear that was even stranger given she knew full well what was on the other side of life. She remembered large chunks of her previous reincarnation, she worked with the dead and the afterlife every day. She had even been taken to the afterlife to interview the dead about temporary revivals or their wills on several occasions. But despite all the logic and understanding, the fear never went away. She always feared dying again even if she knew she would be fine, but Breith was different, an entire week where death stopped. A week dedicated to enjoying life to the fullest. No matter how many times someone was digested they would revive as if nothing had happened. She flung open her windows to the sight of the city covered in snow, she could already see many displays of passion before her. A minotaur sliding down the throat of a cute wolf, a giantess slurping up a sleepy-looking naga and many more. Her heart swooned at the beautiful sight.
"Are you excited, my love?" a sweet voice startled the woman almost sending her tumbling out the window in a start. Only to be caught easily by the speaker. A beautiful golden-skinned sphinx with black hair and hungry eyes. Her golden skin paired perfectly with the sandy fur of her lower taur body, its four paws pressed against the floor as she clutched Dite easily, her wings flapped softly, all while her hungry golden eyes stared at the rabbit in her hands. Her six-and-a-half foot body towered over the tiny three-foot rabbit.
"Good morning Sret." Dite stuttered, she already knew what was about to happen. "Yes, I'm quite excited about this week. Though I'm surprised it was you that got me as soon as I woke up."
The towering sphinx pulled her back into the room with a smile. "No doubt Kayie would have loved to be here, but she came down with a case of breakfast." Sret chuckled.
"Hey, babe. Sorry I didn't get to eat you. She was waiting at my bed for me to open my eyes, just to eat me so she could get you first." another woman's voice called from the sphinx's stomach.
"Don't worry, I'm sure you'll get a chance somewhere during the month. Dite giggled as her lover hefted her up into the air.
"Speaking of, I think it's time for me to join you in there." the bunny giggled as she gazed down the hungry maw. A single swallow was all it took for Sret to inhale her tiny wife, sending her sliding down to the tight stomach where she was met by her other wife Kayie. The black-winged angel was curled up tight in the hot gut, one of her four wings already a stump, an arm missing as were most of her feathers from her wings and her hair.
"I was hoping I could eat you before I digested, but Sret decided to play dirty," she grumbled.
"Oh well. There's always tomorrow, or if not that, there's still a week where you can gobble me up to your heart's content without me panicking." Dite chimed as she cuddled up to her mushy wife. The two happily digesting together.
"So, what should we do today? All of us are off for the week due to the festival, so what should we do?" Kayie asked giddily as she flung a black dress on with a smile.
"Hmmm. I think there's a hunt scheduled for today, we could join that. Assuming we even make it there without getting gobbled up a few times." Sret sniggered.
"Hmm, what about a play? Isn't there a play about the creation of Incaro today?" Dite replied. She knew how much her lovers enjoyed a good play.
"That sounds fun." Sret chimed with an excited smile.
"It's been a long time since I heard that one. Come to think of it, I remember reading something that will make you happy Sret." the angel grinned.
"Oh?"
"Traci Nua is playing the role of Incaro." the angel spoke softly, she knew that her wife adored the cat girl actress and would never miss a chance to see her movies, but to see her live? She got exactly the reaction she'd hoped for as Sret erupted into the air with a childish squee.
"Please! We have to go see that!" she begged taking the hands of both her wives.
"Hmmm, you know, I think the hunt sounds nice instead." Dite teased. Both Dite and Kayie watched as panic filled Sret's eyes. They both knew she wouldn't go on her own since she loved spending time with them, but the temptation was too much for her.
"I'm just kidding. I wonder if Bestla will be in it as well."
The three managed to get tickets to the play. The massive theatre was made to accommodate all races and species, from the smallest mice to even large oni and jotun, so the three had little issue finding seats.
The lights dimmed and illuminated the stage as a woman took the stage, a well-dressed angel with white wings.
"This is a tale everyone should know, but it is always worth remembering, especially on these most cold nights of Breith. So sit back, enjoy some snacks and try not to make too much noise, for as we all know. there are more than just us watching this play." the angel smiled as the stage went black. Those who could see in the dark had the misfortune of seeing the stagehands moving the props and set to a stary space. The lights reilluminated the stage to a vast empty star system. A large figure strode onto the stage followed by several dancers dressed as the cosmos. The giantess towered at almost ten feet.
"It is Bestla!" Sret squirmed excitedly seeing another actress she adored take the stage.
Bestla was far from normal looking though. Every inch of her was covered head to toe in makeup and costume. She had a large feathered wing emerging from her back, while on the other side of her back were three large arachnid legs, scales adorned her left arm to her elbow while fur covered the other arm to the same spot. Three glowing red eyes on one side of her face while the other retained her normal eye. A single large horn protruded from her head which itself sported a wig of many colours. She had four separate ears, a normal human ear, and a pointed elven while a neko and wolf ear rested upon her head. Even her chest was covered to make it appear as though she only possessed one breast. It was clear she was the god Voreose.
The three watched as the god silently wafted her hand, as the dancers sang out a spell calling for life to be made. With smoke emanating from the giantess's hand a smaller figure popped from the empty hand, covered in greens, blues and patches of gray and sandy brown.
"Traci!" Sret whimpered out excitedly as the tiny cat girl playing the very world itself pleaded silently for her life as the god opened her maw to consume. The Narrator was the only one who spoke as she spun the story of how the newly made planet Incaro begged for her life and was given it. The lights vanished from the stage once more as the stagehands hurried about. When the light returned, the two divine beings were massive, towering more than fifteen feet tall each, no longer in the vastness of space, but rather an empty grassy field. The two divine beings danced in unison as a giant mortar rose from the stage, Voreose began tossing parts of her body into it as Incaro mashed it into a dough. The audience marvelled at the amazing effects of the god. Even though they all knew her many features to be props and costumes every tear and rip of her body made even the hardiest among them wince. When the mortar was filled, the dancers again sang and from it sprung a new set of dancers of varying races. Incaro began to dance amidst them. Though they soon stopped dancing and began to devour each other. Incaro again turned to Voreose in mute pleading. The remaining dancers who had entered with Voreose burst once more into song as the stage lit up in colour. Lights swirled around the ceiling of the stage before crashing to the ground. Where the lights landed stood new dancers, the cosmos singing that from here out the dead would return, though their bodies may be different, and their minds may not be the same, the soul was and would return again and again in new bodies. With that, the actress playing the world lifted her hands as the stage burst into light, wheels and rustling could be heard as the light dimmed. When it did, the once simple stage was replaced with a forest of prop trees and dancers of all species. She and Voreose were both now towering above the dancers, so tall they touched the ceiling.
"And so it was that Voreose and Incaro shaped us, the world and death into a world where we can thrive and take joy. So this Breith we once more honour them and ask that they continue watching over us for all the eons to come." the narrator smiled as the curtain fluttered down.
"I got her autograph, I got her autograph!" Sret squeed as her lovers walked with her out of the theatre.
"You're so cute when you're excited like that." Dite and Kayie giggled. As the three moved through the city they could see in the middle a towering tree that dwarfed even the tallest of buildings. The tree reached into the clouds with a sense of wonder and grace.
"I can't wait for the sacrifice." Kayie smiled.
The week passed with cheer and fun. The three were devoured again and again. Dite missed no chance to wind up in a stomach, especially in the stomach of her wives. They took part in a hunt where they chased down prey and caught them, Dite of course signed up as prey while her lovers took the chance to hunt her and any other cute women they could gobble up. The three attended multiple festivals and gatherings. All manner of games at the many festivals, temple gatherings and more. Dite could hardly walk five feet without being slurped up, Kayie didn't fair much better, while Sret spent little time digesting due to her size, though she was more than happy to spend that time slurping up any girls she could instead.
As the week and the holiday came to its end, the entire city gathered for the final part of the festival. Thousands of women of all species gathered around the massive tree in the center of town. Beside the tree were two statues. One of the planet Incaro, with fish mid-leap through her hair, trees growing from her skin and even some animals and people could be seen on the statue. On the other side was Voreose, who dwarfed the planet by twice her size, his many extra body parts and limbs handled with incredible details, even gems for eyes. In between, them was the great Yew tree that reached past the clouds.
A short neko stood on a simple stage in front of the tree and crowd, a vibrant smile on her face.
"As Breith comes once more to its end, we gather for this one final night. And we sacrifice this to show our love for both Incaro and Voreose. For all their kindness and love they show us, for this world they nurture, for the lives they let us live again and again. So let us fill the air with this sacred yew, and bless the next year!" the neko called, the crowd erupting into cheer and excitement. Three women in robes approached the yew with torches. Everyone watched with bated breath as the fire was slowly lowered to the tree. As soon as the first flame touched the tree, it erupted in swirling blue and green flames. The sweet smell of burning yew filled the entire city in an instant. If one were to look from the massive walls of the city, they would see the same green and blue burning light from the nearest cities, which would normally be out of eyesight. The crowd cheered as the tree burned and crackled, the fire not moving from the tree, no matter how much it burned.
The neko smiled as she turned her attention back to the crowd.
"And so, this Breith comes to an end, or at least once the tree has burned to its last. So get in those last few noms before it's too late girls." the neko had only just finished her words as her attendant quickly grabbed her and wolfed her down.
"What a lovely sight." Sret smiled as she hugged her angelic wife.
"Indeed. No matter how many times I see it. Seeing the tree sacrifice never loses its beauty to me." Kayie smiled warmly as she let her head rest on the sphinx's shoulder. "Right Dite?"
The bunny didn't respond.
"Dite? Honey?" the angel tried to spring up only to find herself stuck to her taur lover. She found her absent wife in the process.
"My turn to have you two for a meal." the rabbit smiled as she pulled both her wives towards her maw.
"Oh, little Dite wants to slurp down this sexy sphinx? Good luck dear. Try not to break that little jaw of yours." Sret teased even as her short wife slowly began working across her rump. The girls laughed and talked as the bunny slowly slurped across her lovers until they were gone.
"Ah, happy Breith girls. Enjoy digesting for the night." she giggled as she stroked her stomach lovingly.
"You just try to not get slurped down yourself." Kayie tittered.
The bunny staggered slowly through the crowd until she bumped into a couple clad in large billowing white cloaks by accident.
"Ah, sorry didn't mean to bump into you. Did you two enjoy the sacrifice?" she smiled as she tried to right her massive gut.
"As a matter of fact, we did. This was the most lively one we've seen in years. It was lovely Dite." one of them smiled warmly.
The bunny froze for a moment, she hadn't given her name to the woman. Looking at her, the woman had long blue hair, that gave the impression of running water.
"It was lovely, we might have to come here more often." the second person replied with a deep booming voice, four uneven eyes with three on one side stared at her from under a large hood cloak that covered them head to toe. A hand reached out and placed three necklaces into the rabbit's hand.
"For you and your wives. Happy Breith, and may you have a good year to come." the blue-haired woman smiled. Dite looked down at the necklaces in awe, but when she looked back up the two figures were gone.
"NO FREAKING WAY!"
