If you aren’t familiar with the ongoing situation: about a week ago Steam and itch.io delisted many NSFW games after payment processors such as Visa, MasterCard, PayPal, and Stripe strongarmed the online storefronts on threat of pulling their support.
This is setting a dangerous precedent that threatens the future of independent art on the internet. Many livelihoods are at risk because because of intermediaries trying to censor perfectly legal business. We’ve all seen this happen with Patreon, Gumroad, Pornhub, and now Steam and itch.io, and it will keep going.
For the last week people have been pushing back by flooding the companies responsible with e-mails and phone calls. It can feel hopeless, but Steam has already quietly removed the new policy banning “content that may violate the rules and standards set forth by Steam’s payment processors[...]” and itch.io has stated that they’re seeking other payment processors. Our voices ARE being heard!
I want to stress that this isn’t JUST about porn. Works that merely contain “adult themes” have been affected, and as usual any policy regulating pornography will end up excessively harming the LGBTQ+ community, where the mere act of being queer is considered inherently pornographic and fetishy.
https://yellat.money/ and https://stop-paypros.neocities.org/ are great places to start for detailed information about contacting the payment companies and demanding an end to these unjust policies. The authors have done a great job collecting all the most important information in one place and these are both terrific resources for contact information, ways to help, and even scripts! E-mails and petitions help, but phone calls are most affective in making your voice heard!

I'm doing my part, putting in calls every day to make sure we don't let up on the pressure.
It's in all of our best interests to be too loud for them to ignore us.
Calling can be scary, but it's worth it. Be polite, follow scripts to help you out, but make your voice heard.
We will win this.

If you're an American, contact your state congress and House Representatives and ask them to support the Fair Right to Banking Act.
It's designed to prevent banks and other financial institutions like payment providers from restricting access or otherwise prohibiting users from accessing the functions provided by the institution for any reason be it censorship or race.

At the same time this is going on, the same right wingers, outraged at people trying to debank the NRA, and Oil Companies are passing laws against debanking based on political or religious views. one passed in TN already..
It includes the following catch all…
“any factor if it is not a quantitative, impartial, and risk-based standard, including any factor relating to the person’s business sector”
Anyone know anyone in TN who’d like to sue?
