Megast is a semi obligate symbiote, a rare trait for a Snailtail. For at least 4 months out of the year, Megast must merge with a host to gain energy and nutrients. The process is gooey and strange for the host as Megast’s goo coats and merges, covering and adapting the host’s physiology. The change occurs at a molecular level, altering organs and body for a more semi aquatic life style.

Megast gets most of his hosts from wayward travellers who wish to cross the Great Swamp that he resides in to save time, and whose traits make the journey not only trivial, but enjoyable. There is a warning; however, that merging causes gradual DNA alteration of the host into a snailtail version of themselves over the course of 4 months, at which point it becomes “permanent”. (Aka you stay like that until it is overwritten.) anything less than that time and the changes will slowly revert.

In this case it seems Megast has found a rare avali! As he merges the avali’s feathers give way to smooth, slick skin, and wings become broad fins to propel on water. Their tail also thickens and curls up in classic snail fashion as their hands and feet form sticky paw pads and webbing. This avali is now ready to traverse the swamp with their new closest friend <3
