Very excited to get to do this mask! I’ve been thinking for a while a Mexican grey wolf would be fun, so when my friend and repeat client wanted one, I couldn’t resist. Lots of fun working with the ears, long ruff, and high contrast colors that make these gorgeous wolves so distinctive. I hope I captured their unique look.
This one features a fitted face mold and eye blanks. As usual, it is paper mache and acrylic.

I so far have not really opened public commissions for these; they just take too long and I don't have an efficient enough process to keep up with the level of interest!
I would like to open an auction slot and/or lottery slot sort of thing in the future, but it's so hard to find the time!
Thank you so much for the interest!

It’s actually traditional paper mache, with newspaper strips and a flour/water/glue blend. I build up the shapes for new molds from scratch with paperboard, foil, and tape. I’ve tried various paper clays for masks before, and it’s okay, but much more breakable - or heavy, if you want it sturdy. This method can be fairly sturdy and stay light. I’ve always wanted to try building up some fine detail in paper clay, but it would break off unless papered over, and papering over would cost some of the detail, haha.
Thanks for the reply! My mate tried to make a Keaton (kitsune character from Zelda) mask with celluclay and, yeah, it's pretty dang heavy. Maybe I can convince him to retry with the old fashioned method.
And, now that I'm thinking about it, I'm a little surprised that all of the baby therians I see making masks don't use paper mache, when that would've been the first thing I'd reach for at their age! I guess I'm just old, lol
