New month, new prompt – I saw the prompt and knew the new drawing would have something to do with "camping." But the first approach went right into the bin after 45 minutes, making room for another idea.
Since I wouldn't have wasted the expensive cotton paper, I wanted to model the sketch on a lower-quality paper and, if successful, transfer it to the way better watercolors paper. This resulted in a sketch that wasn't quite finished in its proportions and style, but provided enough clues to transfer it. But transferring was easier said than done, as the rough-and-ready sketch had a certain charm that didn't want to show up in the second sketch. So, in the middle of re-sketching, I put the pencil down and grabbed the watercolors - I wanted to color the first sketch, no matter what state it was, knowing that the paper wouldn't work very well either. But I didn't care; I wanted to paint.
Armed with a bunch of handicaps, I didn't give it any thought or illusions. I threw paint onto the paper, and the result was an idiosyncratic mix of illustration, watercolor, cartoon, and clip art. It was somehow neither one thing nor the other, and also flawed in some respects, simply because the sketch was never finished. But it has some sort of charme.
However, this will be an instant re-draw. So be prepared for another try on this one the next days.
