this and "Dead Bitch" make me want to write a story with Penace, but having a diffrent light, mainly due to the fact some children are smarter than their parents, or become brilliant yet evil like the child druglord in Robocop 2... more likely I would end up writing out a plot and skelleton of the story and never touch it again...

other than 2 mental problems I have I have just over the "Minimum" level of IQ for genius, but then again I started reading and writing a 4, reading decent length novels at 7 and once read a college level dictionary for fun. and despite the two mental problems I did have one of the last people to get a proper childhood.

I dun care whether it was intended or not, this picture is DEEP.

This is very powerful in its own sense. I always figured after learning what the little bear REALLY was, that that particular form had to strike a particular tone with her, especially if she adopted the form from another, a potential failure in mission to remind herself maybe? Bearing (pun intended) the form of one she didn't get to in time, or somehow missed. with her psyche its understandable if it unbearably (no pun intended) tortures her.
Day in day out her final moments playing endlessly in her mind. the symphony in abuse and violent onomatopoeia cycling in her mind, her over powering captor, the violation, the struggle, the shattering of innocence, only to cut and bleed out the last of that little girls purity. At first fueling Penny's thirst for vengeance, but torturing her for her failures when the dust had finally settled, regardless of her works outcome there will still be that one particular child in her memory...

If anything its sweet in its own taste, as she will weep what she knows and feels. Its so...human?
No... More human then human.

It does remind me of the idea, not all angels and saints were good, and not all demons and devils were bad.

Penance's superiors knew their stuff when they imprisoned her in that form, huh? And yes, the picture was intended to show a side of Penance which we normally wouldn't see. Glad you liked it and noticed the deeper resonance!

The "Penny" in question has been dead for 20+ years when Penance took her form, even the most loving parents saw Penance they would just think "Oh she looks just like our dear Penny isn't that sweet" then they would have a soft cry while remembering their departed beloved daughter.

Excellent series again, Jim. Although I'm no artist by any stretch of the imagination, I could use this to write a story. I know a lot of Loreena McKennitt's works suggests stories - one "Beneath a Phygrian sky " - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exJmnYa8nok - has been rattling though my head, since I first heard it on the CD. But it's so vast I haven't' really worked out something - yet.

The only thing I have, is a lost time-traveler, that's bouncing around time as he desperately tries to get home, but that's all basically :).

Still possessing many of her paranormal abilities, she eventually learns there are people who exist who have no issues with engaging in sexual activities with a kid. This doesn't bother her, since she is only looking to survive. However, a part of her punishment (besides being stuck in a stubby bear body) was that she was forbidden to ever have feelings for anyone she slept with. To aid in this aspect of her punishment, she would be required to kill whomever she had sex with, thereby preventing her from ever caring for someone ever again. It just so happens, in most cases, that she's killing bad guys in the process.

Things end up changing for her when she tracks down a future victim, who surprises her by trying to sever her spinal cord with a knife. She tosses the guy into a wall and holds him there, but is distracted by something she detects in a closet in the nearest room. Upon closer investigation, she finds the clothing of numerous kids this guy has apparently molested or killed. Every piece of clothing she touches makes her experience the kid's final moments. Distraught and enraged, she mutilates the guy horribly, and then decides to actively seek out individuals doing this sort of behavior.

She's not a good guy, per se, but she does good things (even if they are regarded as barbaric or illegal by most cultures). She still possesses many of her paranormal abilities, and often uses them in conflicts, but those abilities come at a price: they consume more energy, which she must then replace by killing and terrifying her victim."</i>

Reading what BFL posted above. Kudos to putting more of a storyline behind a character than many other people would. I didn't know this about the character until now. Do you have any tips where I should start reading/viewing to sort of start at the beginning?

Again, I can't say enough nice things about your characters and artwork. Such amazing story, detail, and realism. A welcomed breath of fresh air for me! I'm glad I found you!

I've been working on the longhand text version of Penance's story for the past few months and hope to have it completed by or before the end of this year. After getting it proofread by a half dozen folks, I'll make the required changes to it and start drawing the comic at the beginning of next year. I'm really chomping at the bit to get this story into print. The story was a complex and rather difficult thing for me to write, and hope that, when read in its entirety, readers will be able to see Penance is more than just the typical killing machine/ill-defined character. Her story starts off in the late 1400's in our world, and runs through not only the Caterwaul reality, but also her own native world and numerous astral realms.

Three more things about this ending:

1. It's undoubtedly a powerful scene. However, I would have loved to see a panel of Molly looking on at Prudence's family reunion, with a sad little smile on her face. While she can't fully share in the family's happiness, at least she can observe it. (And yes, I know I'm a dick for telling you what to draw all the time. I'm sorry.)

2. If Hell exists in the Caterwaul-verse, then Heaven does too, right? If so, at least the little girl whose body Penance uses is happy.

3. I'd love to see Prudence and her family again sometime, hopefully in less dramatic circumstances.

Well, Penance doesn't get too involved in others. Friendship is probably rather alien to her. This may change over time, however.

There is no such thing as Heaven or Hell in the Caterwaul series, since there is no such thing as religion! However, there are different realities which one may consider hell or heaven as some are better and some are worse than one's current realm of existence. And there is info about the original Penny in that Caterwaul story.

Oh! a demon crying? i didnt know that demons could cry as well, well since Penance isnt an ordinary demon and also have feelings i guess that this is possible too, i loved this tale-like comic and this extra bonus pages was very interesting as well, the songs were also very cool to listen! nice playlist! >=)

Some of that gets covered in Penance's Caterwaul story, but I don't want to give away too much info!

In a way, her and the life this body once represented are in the same tragic boat.

Both will never return home or to families. Penance is carrying on Penny's legacy, but all she really has is the good she's doing and the people she hates and mutilates.

In a abstract sort of way, the beings that did this to Penance are getting what they wanted. Too bad they want it exactly their way. Though it seems their in no position to do something about it. That's good for Penance though.

over all awesome story work there and the music that inspired it works wonderfully in the sequencing, and of course, we see a side of Penance that is probibly not seen all that commonly........ beautiful work.....and that is why you are DA MAN!!

It could be her or perhaps it could be her daughter, we don't know how old Penance is.

The recent color picture of her here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6115334/ shows her at the approximate age of 10-12 (of her years), yet that picture would've taken place sometime around the heyday of the ancient Roman empire (in our world). So suffice to say, she's pretty damn old.

Also, the bear body that Penance is stuck in previously belonged to the girl who is planted under that tombstone.

I often have songs or a set of music that inspire a story, but since I've got no graphic talent I won't be doing anything like this. Neat project though. Sehr Gut.

I think she goes after the perverts on purpose now, having been witness to the trauma they can cause. As stated above, she's not a "good guy", but she does things that many may consider "good".
