Goals [READ DESC]
I dunno if "Hey here's this thing I'm trying to do" counts as an "Announcement" but, here it is I s'pose! Me and mine are making moves to emigrate out of the USA overseas! (Best case scenario, to Sweden)
Despite the *gestures everywhere wildly*, this is only kinda related to current events. We have been doing things, making plans, etc. since roughly the start of 2024. If I had to list out my reasons specifically, the top would probably be "Healthcare without murderous levels of debt." and "Being slightly less likely to die via Cop, Ford F150, or Cop driving Ford F150".
Because the dart I threw had to land somewhere! /j
In reality, while I'm not suuper picky about where we go, I've gravitated towards Sweden because of interesting history, Manageable (or at least seemingly manageable) immigration requirements, a language I've so far enjoyed learning, and a relatively similar climate to where I'm already at. That and a lot of the culture here (Minnesota) is at least shamelessly stolen from the swedes (read: Historically, MN has had a high amount of Swedish immigrants), so I felt it'd be fitting!
Because! This is about as close to a "platform or audience" as I've got, I felt it might be a good way to connect with people able to provide help, advice, or just well wishes. If not that, I felt it might be a good way to keep myself accountable. Like a "I said I'm gonna do this, I gotta do this".
This is a woefully difficult thing to do, I'm still not entirely sure we'll be able to pull if off, in all honesty. We're in a spot where it might just be possible, so we have to try! If this works, it'd be an honor to live somewhere that feels just a little less hostile.
