Freya is one I've drawn a lot. In fact they're the only Final Fantasy IX character I've really drawn much of but... not exactly for savory reasons. So it was about time I gave her some respect aside from wank fodder, because she is one of my favorites in the game.
With that in mind I thought her design was one that I had literally no issues with. That was until I actually started drawing her and I kept realizing more and more places where I would change her to my own specifications. (I gotta stop doing this, or maybe keep doing it depending on the perspective)
All in all, Freya is still a great design either way and is horribly under utilized in game. I think there's a lot of ways to fix this, but I won't go into that less I go into one massive head canon rant and no one wants that...unless you do? I don't know!

Freya and Armarant were actually initially going to have longer story arcs I heard. I don't know what was in them, but I do know that both sadly recieved the axe due to time constraints on the game. If they ever remake the game I am BEGGING they restore those ideas.
Freya's story (without giving anything away to those who haven't played it) also ties heavilly to the main message of the story about life and death, ass well as memory being important to both. It really would have been impactfull to have her personal journey further explored, even if the outcome would be bittersweet.

Yeah so I've heard, sadly I feel if a remake happened they wouldn't bother reincorporating those. (And given that Sakaguchi is no longer with Square-Enix I sincerely doubt a remake will ever happen, which is probably for the best) That said, I really would love to see such a thing happen.
The FF7R project has fully convinced me that a remake of 9 by current-day Square-Enix, with its lack of understanding of what made classic FF or even just FF7 itself work and their fuckin' "ethics department" and their overreliance on filling a so-called remake with pointless new characters and sideplots and multiverse BS, would be absolutely terrible. I'll very happily take the cameos, plushies, Vivi backstory book and whatever other non-game things they choose to celebrate 9 with over a DEI-approved, real-is-brown, overcomplicated, culture-erasing run-and-button-mash shadow of what the greatest game in the entire franchise is supposed to be. Especially because now we know they'd release it as multiple separate $80 games and expect us all to buy them when the original is literally available on modern consoles in its entirety for less than half the price.
