Kabuki grey board

An experiment that didn't quite work. I like to paint on matt board of course. I had this little bit of patterned matt board and thought I'd try doing a pic of my kitsune boy, Kabuki on it. I quickly discovered that the board rather repels paint. Ack! But I'm stubborn and finished it anyway. Live and learn:)

I love the picture. I don't think the experiment went bad at all myself. The folds of his kimono show depth very realistically, and the colors jump out due to the texture and color of the board. His face is intense and conveys an intellectual mind examining the situation.

I hate that the board was difficult to work with. I would love to see what you wold do with such an idea if it did not fight you every step of the way. Perhaps some one here would have a suggestion? I am no artist, and would not even hazard a guess of what kind of material would get the same effect without having to do battle with it.

I see these kinds of things done on black, but I never considered doing it on a mottled grey background. that came out interestingly! I like it. It might not be how you *WANTED* it to be, but it still looks good.

I'm with the others on this one. Whether it turned out like you expected or not, the work that you put into it is pretty clear. I definitely like the effect. It sort of looks like he's appearing out of a solid wall of smoke, oxymoronic as that may be.

Would you mind my asking how large the original is, please? I've never seen such good results from using acrylics- a medium I've never been able to bend to my will. And I love the contrast of the red wit hthe black and white.
