the usual alternative to humanoid mechs is some variant of chicken or other inspiration from animals, but there's a lot of unexplored territory in robots that don't look quite like either, i think. mechs that look like a building on legs, multi-axis gantry cranes, etc - forms of locomotion only known in machines that lend themselves well to precision handling and other utilities that call for a robot's touch
