I am a silly little fly and I will rub my little paws together and bonk into your face and sponge kiss you lovingly with my proboscis and then go touch a dead body.
MY BUGSONA IS FINALLY HERE!! After going through many species ideas: hissing cockroach, earwig, then settling on a fly, then deciding on what KIND of fly. Sarcophagidae stuck out to me, not because they’re my favorite flies, or even flies that I think look anything like me, but because they’re associated with the dead and decomposing and I love their color scheme. I’m a hobby taxidermist and I’ve always found as much beauty in decay as I do the rest of the circle of life and death.
My partner says I look like a crane fly tho, and that’s true. I am tall and gangly and my limbs are delicate and would all pop off my body like lego pieces if i were to bump into something too hard thanks to my hypermobility. Maybe one day I’ll make a crane fly sona too… or just keep drawing anthro flies of all my favorite flies.
ANYWAY MEET DIRT. They’re my most masc sona presentation wise but they don’t use any gendered language for themself at all. It’s agender entirely. Like all my sonas outside of rp characters, they don’t really have any special lore, it’s just a stand in for me! It’s autistic like me of course, the main difference between me and Dirt is that I have trouble unmasking and Dirt does not mask or is unable to. Dirt is me if I could be unmasked but 100% of the time. Goals honestly. It’s named after my first major RP character Dirtstar from my oldest warrior cats story that was a LARP I used to do with the kids I babysat from down the street. Dirtstar is very dear to my heart and I’m deep in the weeds rewriting what I remember about this story into something coherent and nuanced and good, so she’s on my mind a lot lately.

I've been majorly in my fly era this year. You read one good book about the wonders of flies and suddenly you're taking countless photos of flies, blogging about flies, reading scientific papers about flies, drawing yourself as a fly, and drawing all the fly OCs you can find on artfight.
I need those mandibles, i need those palps, show me that labium, where those maxillae at? Never give me any of that yucky human mouth bug's life ass nonsense! I find it very uncanny and it takes away from the natural cuteness I find in arthropods. I don't NEED them to be 'cutesified', I think they're adorable as is!
Not to advertise myself but I'm about to post a lot more bugs in the next few weeks as I upload my work from Artfight this year. I always try to draw as many as I can every year.
