Edited on 7.9.25: Reworked the water effect on Dragonite's body.
Always valiant, always watching.
After the reveal I really wanted to draw him; Wings were the focus of this piece, alongside that thick tail.
I saw so many comments mocking and disliking Mega Dragonite, and here I am with my friends adoring the jolly gentle giant. Most folks were bothered by the wings, but I think it's refreshing to see beautiful head wings for a change, I don't think the design would've appealed this much if they were just replacing his older wings - This is a good, solid look
There's a video made by Lockstin (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPYXUx51-vI) that gave me the idea for the storming background.
There was gonna be a viking helmet originally, but I couldn't figure out a design that fit Dragonite's head. My bad, some ideas just don't end up working.
Still need to practice rain and water effects.
I wish for my friend that scrapped Mega Flygon.

Honestly, anything particularly "cool" just wouldn't fit the vibe of Dragonite. It's an inherently goofy Pokemon so it makes perfect sense for its Mega to reflect that, and its also very cool to see Game Freak throw a bone to the people who have been lamenting for over two decades that Dragonite doesn't look more like its pre-evolutions by reincorporating some of Dragonair's features into its Mega.
Mega Dragonite I think is ultimately a nice blend of silly and majestic- something that this piece captures very well!
