"Shinigami", which isn't his real name but this one stuck, is Krystil's mate and longtime friend. The name was granted to him, though he was reluctant to accept it, by the king (Krystil's father) as a way to both honor his (Shinigami) Japanese heritage while inspiring fear in his underlings. Shinigami was under the mentorship of the king's top general and set to take over the position, but he fled the kingdom before that could happen as the lifestyle didn't fit him. <- Behold, an understatement!

His unique combination of being feathered and scaled comes from the combination of his father, who is a swanlike dragon, and his mother who is the same subspecies as Krystil. He's a little smaller than his mate, not by much, yet weighs slightly less than a third of her weight. As a result, unlike her, he can take flight. At the same time, he is a less capable swimmer as he naturally floats, similar to how a swan (or duck or goose) would float on the water. Other notable waterfowlesque traits of his include his sleeping position, where he tucks his snout into the base of one of his wings, and the fact that he honks rather than roars. He can also stand and walk comfortably on only his hind legs, much like an iguanodon.

He is, by and large, a generous individual, something only exacerbated by his inner desire to balance out his past sins. Being fairly physically capable, he is more than happy to volunteer his tine to help others. This helps him get along well with Krystil, who is both literally and figuratively a princess. His primary hobby is blacksmithing, something he learned the ancient traditions of from his father and aims to continue. He is also a skilled cook, his former employment being as a teppanyaki chef in Duncan, BC. He is also well versed in kung fu and has been learning to play the accordion.
