Cedar is a Danyogga, a snakelike species with a few magical traits. He in particular is a Joint Snake, as well as a member of 'The Caliginous Cult', a group that worships a spirit of darkness in its positive aspects, such as the protection of privacy, a person's 'shadow identity', and the single minded focus of being in the dark.
A powerful witch and necromancer, he performed a ritual to cut out his heart, and transform it into a plant, attaining immortality. Unlucky many who did so, he planned for the side effect of 'heartlessness' by making sure to ritually infuse the love of his friends and family into water that he uses to water his plant daily. So far, he's had no issues.

Cedar at one point created Myrtle, a synthetic opossum, to keep him company. Currently living in the Astral Garden, a place for powerful beings to live without harming anyone, he works as a parole officer for Robin. The two get along quite well, even if Cedar has to put his necromancy skills to the test to keep the ghost in check.
