"Semi-automatic pistol, made in desperation out of scraps of metal and junk in record time, poor accuracy, overheats like hell, but still, it is a cheap weapon for defense that uses readily available ammunition found in the wastes, can be repaired with pipe Pistols, scrap metal." -

-WEAPON LORE-
Just because you're the first, does not mean you're the best at something; this phrase rings true to the Goldstone crude Pistol. It is a gun, advertised by its maker. It's loud, overheats easily, jams often, and can't handle dirt, grime, and water well. This was never a functional weapon; it was a weapon made out of desperation while throwing all standards out the window to get something that a person could defend themselves with, in the following months of chaos that befell America after the atomic war of 2077. Originally chambered in .32, damage was not its priority. Using a feed strip mechanism, accuracy was decent, but the fire rate was slow, holding two extra bullets over the improved version that would be produced later. Firing more than 50 rounds consistently would cause the weapon to overheat and then jam, forcing the user to completely disassemble the gun to be able to remove the jam.
As the years after the bombs rolled on, the .32 caliber was dropped for the .38 caliber round, not much of an improvement. However, once the radiation had settled down, settlements started to form, rebuilding cities commenced, and many people needed the means to protect themselves. here came the cheap 20 cap pistol for anybody down on their luck and short on caps could get a pistol to defend themselves. Being made out of literal scrap reformed into what could be considered a gun, those without a gun preferred it over a BB gun or bare hands in a fight.
Production of one of the Crude Pistols was just under an hour to make for a novice gun maker; to an expert, it could be made in as little as 30 minutes, giving it the nicknames:
Shoddy Defender, Substandard Pistol, Burner Pistol, Ratchet Pistol, The slam pistol.
But most preferred the maker's name, The Crude Pistol. First making its appearance after the bombs fell in 2077 as a personally made weapon, a few months later, at the beginning of 2078, replica models would be produced for the survivors of the war as a cheap, low-cost sidearm to defend themselves. The first models were made for free and given out ammo the survivors had to get themselves ammo. Just about all of them would be dropped the moment a pre-war gun was found. Production would be made until 2105, when the gun maker would stop production altogether. In 26 years, a total of 149,760 pistols would be made.
Most would be abandoned and later scavenged. However, by 2089, wastelanders would take this design and improve it to a degree, though it was still housing its other issues, among them being that it was still strip-fed. This model continued until being phased out completely and ditched for the pipe pistol made in a machine shop converted to a gun-making facility, the best version a wastelander could get for a pipe pistol made in 2102. However, those that were not in mainstay settlements that were far flung, afield away from any major hubs of civilization, would make remakes of the Crude Pistols design long after it was retired; exact numbers are unknown, but the Gun maker that made the original design has estimated from the models he has scavenged and broken down for parts, roughly 500,000 were made and are still in circulation, last recorded making of the Crude Pistol in a settlement for defensive purposes was in the D.C Ruins in 2150.
You can still find rare cheap weapons is still in use, be it converted to rifle versions or SMG versions. Carried by the most desperate or most impoverished in the wasteland, with literally nothing else left to defend themselves with. Most see with this are often seen as wanting to be killed off, because the better version is readily available, also found in much higher quantities.
just get a different gun. This is a relic. If you're using it, your life is its lowest it can be before being 6 feet under.
