This idea came from reading news about an accident at one of the remaining level train crossings in the country. They are progressively replaced with bridges or tunnels, except in some rural areas where the construction cost is greater than the limited local budget.
So I imagined a short metallic bridge with a car elevator at each end, then I rendered the elevator self-powered to made it usable in remote areas where the rail line is not electrified. This concept could also be useful in other contexts like in an urban vertical parking garage.
