I think you may be referring g to Arroxath's dialogue. It was mainly "off camera" but I can see how there could be confusion. But Maverick had the idea bulb on page 2. So it was kind of implied he was up to no good.

Yeah again this is a long comic already. It was a part of a short story I wrote a while back.
As for the raft and why it's puffed up. It's the dart Maverick fired at it. It's a magical inflation dart.
I mean yes Arroxath was ahead but during the chaos that was behind him he could hear rafts being popped.
And Vicktor is the Samurai. They had a discussion on the raft briefly before Maverick arrived but again this is not a cheap comic to be made so stuff had to be cut out.
